Diels, an umbrella plant. Dig at the end of autumn to remove the fibrous roots and silt. [Properties] This product is slightly cylindrical, with 3 to 5 or more branches at the lower part, and a length of 15 to 25 cm. The surface is yellow-brown to tan, with longitudinal wrinkles and horizontally long pores. Root head (returning head) 1.5 ～ 4cm in diameter, ring-shaped, round and obtuse, with purple or yellow-green stems and leaf sheath residues; the surface of the main root (returning) is uneven; branch root (returning) diameter 0.3 ～ 1cm, thick and thin, twisted, with a few fibrous marks. The texture is flexible, the section is yellow-white or light yellow-brown, the skin is thick, with cracks and most brown dot-like secretory cavities. Has a strong aroma, sweet, spicy and slightly bitter. Those with large firewood, dry oil-free, or green-brown section are not available for medicinal use.
[Identification] Cross section of this product: The cork layer is a series of cells. The cortex is narrow with a few oil compartments. The phloem is wide and fissured. The oil chamber and tubing are round in diameter, with a diameter of 25 to 160 μm. The outer side is larger and gradually smaller inward. The surrounding secretory cells are 6-9. The layers form a loop. Xylem ray is 3 to 5 rows of cells; ducts are scattered individually or 2 to 3 are clustered to form a radial arrangement; thin-walled cells contain starch grains. Powder yellowish brown. Bast thin-walled cells are spindle-shaped, with a slightly thicker wall and a very fine obliquely staggered texture on the surface, sometimes with thin transverse diaphragms. Ladder and reticulated ducts are common, with a diameter of about 80 μm. Fragments of the oil chamber are sometimes visible.
